What is Homoeopathy? Homoeopathy is a holistic system of medicine which treats the whole person in order to stimulate the body’s own healing potential. The word Homoeopathy Remedies are made from mostly natural substances. They are prepared in specialist pharmacies and are easy to take. They are safe for everyone and can be taken in conjunction with conventional medicines if necessary. In 1796 a German doctor, Samuel Hahnemann, discovered an approach to restoring health, which he called Homoeopathy. comes from the Greek, and means 'similar suffering'. It works on the principle of ‘like cures like’, where a substance that can cause certain symptoms can also be used to cure them. For example, a cold with symptoms of profuse runny and burning eyes and a runny nose could be helped by a remedy (homoeopathic medicine) made from red onion (allium cepa), as this substance can cause similar symptoms. However someone with a cold with slightly different symptoms will be treated using a different remedy as the remedy has to be individually chosen. How Can Homoeopathy Help you? Homoeopathy can help in many ways and Homoeopaths like to look beyond conventional labels of dis-ease processes and treat each individual. However a variety of physical problem can be treated with homoeopathy. They may be current (acute) e.g. flu, coughs, sore throats, or long standing (chronic) e.g. allergies, eczema, arthritis, migraines, post viral illnesses, asthma. Homoeopathy is often also used to support people with emotional or mental health concerns e.g. anxiety, depression and phobias. Many women find homoeopathy helpful with menstrual, fertility, pregnancy, breastfeeding and menopausal problems. It can also be used to treat people of all ages; it is a wonderful, safe way of treating babies and children and is equally as appropriate in the treatment of teenagers and adults. The Consultation The first time you see a Homoeopath, your specific health concerns are discussed in detail as well as your general health, energy levels, past medical history and other aspects of yourself that are relevant in order to match the right remedy to you as an individual. Please allow 1 ½ to 2 hours for your first consultation and approximately 45 minutes to 1 h o u r f o r s u b s e q u e n t f o l l o w - u p consultations. It can give relief to many conditions including fibrosis, arthritis, rheumatism, muscle and joint sprains. Reflexology: Is the precise application of pressure to the reflex points of the feet and hands. A trained therapist can detect congestion in the feet which reflect imbalances in the body. The feet are massaged by the thumbs and the fingertips and this releases points of imbalance, restoring the flow of vital energy and initiating a healing response throughout the whole body. The therapy promotes deep relaxation easing tension and improving circulation, bringing relief to a wide range of acute and chronic disorders including digestive complaints, back problems, headaches, menstrual imbalances, sinus congestion and general stress related conditions. Aromatherapy: Is a therapeutic treatment using essential oils extracted from plants. These oils are carefully blended for each individual and they can be added to baths, used in massage or inhaled. Oils may be burnt in all of the massage sessions. Research has shown that just 20 minutes of aromatherapy massage promotes profound stress reduction, raises the mood and eases aches and pains. MASSAGE tHERAPIES traditional chinese medicine (T.C.M.) what is Traditional Chinese Medicine (T.C.M.)? Traditional Chinese Medicine has been practised in China for over 3,000 years. The philosophy behind T.C.M. is holistic health care, from diagnosis to treatment and maintenance. T.C.M. works to regenerate the organ functions in one’s body. Health can be restored by bringing the body functions into balance, activating and increasing the body’s natural immune system. T.C.M. has two basic components - Chinese Herbal Therapy and Acupuncture. Chinese Herbal Therapy There are over 300 Chinese Herbs in common use. The doctor prescribes combinations of the herbs specifically to treat you, to regulate the functional states of the internal organs and to reestablish harmony and balance. This will prmote and enhance the body’s resistance to ill-health. Herbal treatments include herbal tea, powders, pills and lotions. Acupuncture Acupuncture is used to remove obstructions from the channels and to regulate the flow of blood circulation and Qi (energy). Qi is the Vital Force or Life Force, the energy within a person. Qi can be enhanced, improved and nourished so that the person is not only symptom free but is healthy and full of vitality. Acupuncture is applied via the use of small needles at special points on the body’s meridians to restore or maintain health. The chinese massage (Tui Na) has a similar function. Treatable Conditions include: Dermatological, Muscular, Skeletal and Neurological disorders. Digestive, female, male and systemic problems. As well as addictions and mental and emotional complaints such as anxiety and stress. Nutritional medicine is a form of holistic therapy that uses food and supplementary nutrients to alleviate or prevent chronic health problems. Nutritional therapy is a holistic discipline; nutrition as the key to good health is the all-embracing fundamental principle , to help people of all ages to stay at their personal peak of energy and vitality. Prescriptions are based on medical, family and dietary histories and the practitioner will individually match a full nutritional programme to your requirements. “Prevention is better than cure” and the prevention of chronic illness is best accomplished through dietary and life habits that support health and this can be accomplished through nutritional therapy. The practitioner seeks to educate, empower and motivate the patient to assume more personal responsibility for his or her health by adopting a healthy attitude, life style and diet. What to expect in the consultation The practitioner will take a case history starting from birth and considers the physical, psychological and emotional events that may have contributed to the present situation. Then they look at how this can be addressed this through the use of diet along with some nutritional supplements. This is a natural approach, which seeks to a d d r e s s t h e r o o t c a u s e s , t h e r e b y empowering the individual to regain balance in the body, raising the vitality and re-establishing good health. Clinical hypnotherapy WHAT IS HYPNOTHERAPY? Simply speaking hypnosis is an altered state of consciousness. Clinical Hypnosis or Hypnotherapy, therefore, is the use of an altered state of consciousness, or trance, for therapeutic endpoint. This means that people are not treated ‘with’ hypnosis but are treated ‘in’ hypnosis. All hypnotic states are characterised by a tremendously pleasant state of relaxation, which individuals allow themselves to enter so that desired, beneficial suggestions may be given directly to the part of the mind known as the subconscious. Under hypnosis, the conscious, rational part of the brain is temporarily bypassed, making the subconscious part, which influences mental and physical functions, receptive to therapy. HOW DOES HYPNOTHERAPY WORK? The subconscious mind is the source of many of our problems and self images. Our beliefs, habits and behaviours are stored as information. The subconscious is a tremendous reservoir of our unrecognised strengths and knowledge. Hypnosis is a natural and effective technique for accessing the subconscious mind - the key to unleashing our potential, changing our unwanted habits and behaviours and finding solutions to our problems and concerns. Any therapeutic intervention implies change, so entering a trance state alone does not signify a therapeutic endpoint. Once the individual has achieved a trance state the hypnotherapist uses many different methods ranging from simple suggestions to analytical techniques. For example, the therapist may ask about past, present or future concerns to establish the reasons for the problem. Alternatively the therapist may give suggestions to the subconscious mind aimed at overcoming specific problems such as lack of self confidence. Some uses such as calming a person require minimal change on the part of the individual, more complex behaviour patterns such as overeating or treatment of panic disorders or reactive (non-clinical) depression require a more complex therapeutic intervention together with psychological and behavioural homework. Donna Craine (DipHyp) uses different therapeutic methods in supporting behaviour change, habitbreaking (including deepseated addiction problems), smoking-cessation, and supporting positive change in motivation, relieving phobias, exam nerves and stress. 1st Consultation Free of Charge - 1 hour to take case history and treatment discussion. Fees: Smoking Cessation £100 A single 1 ½ hour session needed. All other hypnotherapy £60 per 1 hour session concessions available. Treats adults and children 9yrs + Can refer under 9’s. N.B.
